Cloisonee of flowerb and bird

The oval cloisonne at the wall of “Kachou no Ma” of the State Guest House AKASAKA PALACE are permitted for photographs only between August 29 and September 17, 2024 as for celebrating its 50 Anniversary.

Namikawa Sosuke 濤川惣助 (1847-1910) was a leading cloisonne artist of the Meiji Period. Claiming the Honorary Award at the 1889 Paris World’s Fair, he went on to win various prizes at expositions both in Japan and other countries. He is known for developing wireless cloisonne (in which the metal wire used in the sectioning of the glaze is removed). The cloisonne works featured in the Kacho no Ma (Hall of Flowers and Birds) are regarded as masterpieces that stand out in the history of cloisonne.
