Mr. Kishichiro Okura, 1882-1963 a successor of the Okura conglomerate and founder of the Hotel Okura, married Ms. Kumiko Mizoguchi who was a daughter of the last lord of Shibata feudal domain in Edo period. Gokaibishi (five overlapping hishi pattern, see the photo) the crest of Mizoguchi family also became the Okura family’s at that time. His father Kihachiro Okura had come from a merchant of Shibata domain to a leader of the economic quarters in Meiji period. You shall find many variation of the hishi, traditional diamond-shape, at the Hotel Okura. Gokaibishi in red is used as the crest of Shibata city in Niigata Prefecture as well.
