Koma Jinja 高麗神社 or Koma Shrine in the suburb of Tokyo

Koma Jinja 高麗神社 is decidated to the spirit of Koma-no Kokishi Jakko 高麗王若光 of Kokuryo 高句麗. The Kokuryoans were horse-riding people who lived along River Shokako 松花江 of Chinese continent. They occupied the land from the northeastern part of China to the northern part of Korean peninsula and reigned there for 700 years. In 668, they were ruined by the attack of the allied armies of Tang 唐 and Silla 新羅. Many of aristocrats and Buddhist monks who escaped from the attack came over to Japan and lived mainly in the eastern part of Japan. In 716, 1799 Kokuryoans were transfered by the then government to establish a new country, Koma. Being appointed the governor of the country, Koma-no kokishi Jakko devoted his life to the development of Koma county, and died there. People of Koma country revered him and built a shrine in order to memorize his virtue for ever.
