Shrine in a giant cage

Shrine in a giant cage

The main shrine of the Toneri Hikawa Shrine, a cultural prope rty, is protected by a huge cage, so visitors can only see it through the fence. The cage had been built before World War II, which means how people of the Toneri area had cherished the Shrine. The present main shrine was built in 1836. Every walls, poles and doors are filled with woodcarvings, which are usually used only for some parts. A carver Tatekawa Jyuzo was said to make up them, but not confirmed.
