Woodcarvings by Masamitsu Takiguchi, at the age of three he lost his hearing, are exhibited at the lake Akan.

Masamitsu Takiguchi was born in Manchuria, in 1941. At the age of three, he lost his hearing to a high fever while suffering from pneumonia. He graduated from the Tokyo University of Education's affiliated Hearing-Impaired High School.He recieved the Lipreading Award from Tokyo University of Education Professor Emeritus, Dr. Shinichiro Tomonaga.
From the age of 28, he took up residence in the Lake Akan area and devoted himself to wood engraving. His private exhibitions have been held in cities such as Kushiro, Spporo, Chiba, and Tokyo. He has donated wooden relief works to AkankoElementary School, Kushiro City Museuma, and Lake Akan Visitor Center.
